Arabic

There are many Arabic dialects, but the three most distinct forms of Arabic are Classical Arabic, Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Arabic. Modern Standard Arabic provides a universal form of the language understood by all Arabic speakers, and is commonly used in radio and TV news broadcasts, films, plays and poetry. Colloquial Arabic dialects are generally only spoken languages. Arabs speak the colloquial language in their daily interactions, but when they encounter a language situation calling for greater formality, Modern Standard Arabic is the language of choice.

Arabic is spoken in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Gaza Strip, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, West Bank, Yemen by a majority and many other countries as a minority language. There are over 300 million native speakers of the Arabic language.

So, why should you learn Arabic?

Interaction with Arabic speaking countries is increasingly important in international affairs, and there is a shortage of professionals in the United States who are fluent in the Arabic language and culture. Journalism, education, finance, business and industry, translation, consulting, Foreign Service and intelligence are examples of fields with a growing demand for individuals who are versed in the Arabic language. Learning Arabic will give you the competitive advantage when searching for a new job and progressing in your chosen career.

Arabic speaking countries have a combined GDP of over 600 billion dollars, and the business opportunities between United States and Arabic speaking countries is continually expanding. The world market is increasingly influenced by the Arabic region. In order to do business effectively and efficiently, it is essential to know the language and the culture of the individuals with whom you plan to negotiate and conduct trade. Miscommunication, as well as an unawareness of social and business cultural norms, slows business interactions and disrupts trade. Training employees in the Arabic language and culture can not only save your business time and money, but it will open the door to an increased market and help your company engage in international trade.
