There are many Arabic dialects, but the three most distinct forms of Arabic are Classical Arabic, Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Arabic. Modern Standard Arabic provides a universal form of the language understood by all Arabic speakers, and is commonly used in radio and TV news broadcasts, films, plays and poetry. Colloquial Arabic dialects are generally only spoken languages.
